Fairbanks to Home!
I guess I should say I am happy to be on my way home at last. Well, I am!!! I arrived in Fairbanks right on time, well, a half hour later than the scheduled time - on time, I guess, as most airlines go. I waited for my car to arrive, but alas, no ride. Then I had the idea, maybe I should check to see if my car had been delivered. Well, what a pleasant surprize. I found out my keys were waiting to be picked up at the Hertz dealer desk.
After finding my car in the parking lot, I drove through the checkout and found a service station to fill my tank and I was on my way home, at last.
After being on the highway for about two hours, I was starting to fall asleep at the wheel. Figuring I could make it to Tok, Alaska, I continued driving. Bad idea...I ended up in a snow bank 22 miles from Tok, necessitating a tow from the toolies. After signing for a $340 towing bill, I had something to eat at Fast Eddies and continued on my way.
As the day approached, I was greeted with some amazing vistas of beauty. The sun rose on some of the prettiest pictures of the true north - trees frosted with snow and ice. The pictures I was able to take are here for all to see.
I made it home with 9 kilometers of gas left in my gastank. I immediately went to bed and over the next 48 hours had 30 hours of sleep.
Being refreshed by the long sleep, I tackled the piled up mail and communications. As usual, bills to pay and special offers from businesses were all I had to look forward to. Checking my email, a note from the boss to see when I could return to work, which of course, was as soon as possible, to be able to pay for those accrued bills. All in all, a successful trip!!
Next blog, my impressions of the trip as a whole adventure!
