Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis)
Well, as promised, I am able to put up some aurora photos for your enjoyment. There isn't much time left to take this type of photo as the nights are getting shorter as we approach the longest days of the year.
Having good friends with you as you enjoy the beauty of the Yukon night sky with myriad amounts of stars illuminating the sky is such a pleasure. Having the Northern Lights dance for us, was a treat for all.
These photos were taken from a back yard in Copper Ridge, Whitehorse and due to a neighbour turning on the yard lights, helped to illuminate the local trees.
This coming Tuesday, the aurora is supposed to be exceptionally bright, so I will be spending a good part of Tuesday night after work taking pictures.

Aurora Skies
Finally, after 9 years in the Yukon, conditions were all lined up for a great night. Two lovely young ladies for company, a sky filled with stars (constellations were abundant), and a sweet show of Northern Lights. I haven't had a view of the Aurora Borealis when I've had a camera ready to photograph them. While my lens was open and doing it's job, the sky cooperated by adding a flash of red aurora (not sure if I caught it right). I won't know if my pictures will be any good as I was using film and long exposures of 30 seconds. When my film has been processed, if there are any good photographs, I will put them in my next blog, so keep checking here for the next episode in the life of The Yukoner.

Hey folks, welcome back. I'm here at work again, so I'm unable to add photos again until I get home tonight. I mentioned the last time that I was posting some photos on Facebook and I did. This time I will post some samples here on "The Blog" and on Facebook. I have been travelling a little this spring on some of the side roads around Whitehorse (This is the Annie Lake Road on the highway to Skagway, Alaska) and have found some mountain scenery which is just magnificent! The snow is melting and the swans are returning by the

Spring time - At Last!
Hi! to all those folks who check here periodically and Welcome to those who might have discovered this site by accident. I'm sorry that my New Years Resolution didn't make it much past New Years.
It's been a bum start to the year with two heart episodes sending me to the hospital. But at least now everything seems to be working fine. Work has been busy and that has kept me going and allows me to pay those pesky bills month after month.
I've finally started using Facebook (Ron Lang mailto:dutchie1944@hotmail.com) and have begun to put some of my photos of the Yukon out to the public. Overall response has been good. Many of the viewers have not been able to get out there to see the beauty which is ours for all to see here in the North. Those of you who are down south have already begun to see flowers blooming and leaves on the trees. Here, our trees haven't even thawed out enough for the sap to flow. Some tourists have even had the opportunity to see the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights) when they go out at night. For them, this is the reason for them to come to the Yukon at this time of year, not too cold, but still dark enough to enjoy the aerial display of nature.
As I write this blog tonight, I'm at work and not on my own computer, so I am unable to add some photos of the things which happen up here in the north. BUT, if you check out my Facebook page, I have uploaded photos of the beauty of the Yukon, the 2010 Yukon Quest, and some of the big and small animals which share this land with us. I will also be adding some photos of the flora which surrounds us here every year, our Provincial Flower, the Fireweed, and many of the different varieties of colour producing plants which grow here in the Yukon. Also some photos of the snow sculpture from our winter carnival called, Rendezvouz.
All photos presented are those which I have taken personally. For more pictures of places where I have not been, I refer you to alaskastockphotos.com . Almost anything you wish to see about the north, has been photographed by someone somewhere and all that's necessary is to walk your fingers across the keyboard to access any of it.
I will close for now and I hope everyone has had a super Easter weekend. See you soon.
